This year, we are honored to offer for sale a special collection of paintings by beloved former St. Albans faculty member and artist Sandy Larson ‘56.
Larson first came to St. Albans in C Form in 1947. He became a three sport varsity athlete and the president of the Class of 1956. He has a love of painting that was first fostered in his freshman year at St. Albans, when, upon Larson’s request to drop an art class, his advisor urged him to give it a chance. After St. Albans and college at Washington and Lee, Larson enrolled in medical school, but dropped out to pursue painting. He received a Masters of Fine Arts from American University, and joined the St. Albans faculty in 1965. Larson taught art in both Lower and Upper Schools between 1965 and his retirement in 2014, serving St. Albans for a total of 45 years, with 15 years as the Chair of the Visual Arts Department.
Larson based his art classes on the belief that art was important for individual growth. “The purpose of the two-dimensional art program is to help the students find a personal way of expressing their own ideas,” Larson explained. He nurtured and inspired generations of St. Albans artists, instilling in them a lifelong interest in creative expression.
We are so grateful that Mr. Larson has donated this collection of his paintings to benefit the St. Albans Parents Association. One hundred percent of the proceeds from this sale will go to the PA. Pricing varies based on the size of each piece and whether it is being sold framed or unframed.
Purchase of these paintings is available exclusively online. Pickup will be in person on Saturday, December 5, 2026 between 2pm and 4pm in the Ticket Office of the Christmas House Tour, or by arrangement with Emily Pistilli (pa.cht@stalbansschool.org). Unfortunately we are not able to ship these paintings.
